In Memoriam Huntsville Audubon lost a beloved member and past President with the sudden passing of Jack Prouty (John Frazier Prouty) on September 27, 2008. In addition to serving as Chapter President, Vice President and Conservation Chair numerous times, Jack often held the office of Field Trip Chair and was one of our top-notch birders. Anyone who went birding with Jack appreciated his knowledge and enjoyed his enthusiasm. There are few members who don’t have fond memories of at least one field trip with Jack. To many, Jack has been the face of Huntsville Audubon. At a point in this chapter’s past when disinterest was threatening its existence, Jack and a few others re-energized Huntsville Audubon. Along with Joan, he was the welcoming committee at our meetings, the organizer for the Christmas Bird Count and our leader in the field. Above all, he was a dear friend and colleague and there are no words to express how we will miss him. The members of Huntsville Audubon extend our deepest sympathy to his wife, Joan L. Prouty, and his children, Stephen, Michael, Stanley, Patrick and Anne-Marie and their families. Please know that we will be forever grateful for the gifts which Jack shared with us. The Huntsville Audubon Memorial Conservation Fund has been created to which contributions may be made for construction of a bird blind in Jack’s memory. |
